Norseman Gold operates Australia's longest continuously running gold mining operation, having produced over 5.5 million ounces of gold over a period of more than 65 years from its Norseman field located 725km east of Perth, Western Australia.
Ore from the Norseman mining operations is treated at the Phoenix CIL mill. This mill has a rated capacity of 700,000 tonnes per annum, although it is not currently operating at full capacity, being run on a 8 days on and 6 days off milling cycle. The plant uses conventional crushing followed by a SAG and Ball circuit (SABC) with gravity gold recovery capability through a Knelson concentrator followed by a relatively conventional cyanidation leach and adsorption circuit. Gold recoveries have historically been in the region of 96 per cent to 97 per cent.
